Summer rentals in Boulder are a hot commodity.  One of the best kept secrets for us locals is that Boulder is a really fantastic summer town!  We are blessed with gorgeous weather, unlimited opportunities for outdoor recreation,  summer festivals, great food including one of the best farmers markets in  the country, and so much to explore in the summer.

What that means for those seeking Boulder vacation rentals and furnished short term rentals in Boulder is that they are not the only ones looking to spend their summer in Boulder!  This creates a situation where rentals in Boulder are in high demand in the summer months.

We start getting inquiries for our furnished properties in the winter months for folks looking to stay in our beautiful city of Boulder for the summer.   And by about May each year we usually have a pretty long waiting list of people looking to stay in Boulder for the summer.

Here a just a few reasons why Boulder is such a popular summer town.

1- The Weather in Boulder is Superb.   

Not surprisingly, people that live in really hot summer climates like Texas and Florida really enjoy Boulder in the summer.   Many, many that have visited Boulder in the summer become repeat visitors year after year.  Our days are warm and dry and are our nights are cool and crisp.   Yes, Boulder does see the occasional heat wave, but it’s a “dry” heat.  No humidity makes it feel cooler than it otherwise would.   While many of our summer rentals do offer air conditioning you will find many summer nights where it is preferable to sleep with the AC off and the windows open to the sound of the crickets.

2. Boulder is not a ski town!  This may go without saying but you would be amazed how many people we talk to that think they are going to get a “discount” on a summer rental in Boulder because ski season is over.  News flash – there is no ski area in Boulder and the major ski resort town (excluding the local Eldora)  is over an hour away.   Boulder doesn’t attract the ski crowd, the ski resorts are just too far away.

3. The University of Colorado.    The University plays a major role in Boulder, from the population influx of nearly thirty thousand students arriving every fall and departing every spring, to visiting professors and faculty, to a beautiful campus, and all the related services that are involved in supporting the University.  With the students being gone in the summer our streets are less crowded and the lines at Whole Foods are slightly shorter.  Ahhh…so nice.

So one might think- with all the students that are gone for summer wouldn’t that create an abundance of housing? Well not really, have you seen student housing?  It’s not the same housing stock that most non-students are considering. Doubtful that you would want to spend your summer vacation living in a student rental with Bob Marley posters on the wall next to some partying co-eds. (nothing wrong with Bob Marley, we are big fans actually).   Be assured, we will not rent you a party palace for your summer vacation.

The University also tends to bring in visitors in the summer months, whether it be visiting faculty or researchers and such.  These visitors are also looking for clean and professional summer rental housing -not of the student variety – and they are competing for the same summer vacation rental stock.

4. Considering Moving to Boulder.   What better time to test drive a new City than the summer months. That’s what a lot of people do before making the leap.  A very popular request is one we get from folks that are considering a move to Boulder but want to try it out first by renting a place for a couple months in the summer.  The kids are out of school so its easier for them to pick up for a couple of months.  This adds to the demand for summer rentals in Boulder.

5. Relocating while school is out.  These are folks that have already decided to move to Boulder so they have packed their bags and hit the road.  Only problem is that they haven’t found their new permanent home in Boulder yet.  So they plan to rent for a few months before they purchase.  Guess what?  They are renting short term rentals until they find their permanent home.
